Note: Experts can choose any of the following skills as one of their 10 class skills. Experts are the foremost...uh, experts on firearms building, repair, and design.

Creature Lore (Int; trained only)

Class Skill: Bards, Rangers, and Wizards

With the use of Creature Lore you can research the tales surrounding creatures. In doing so you can try to discern the truths evident in the legends and lore surrounding specific beasts. Using this skill you can perform monster research as per the rules under "Legends & Lore."

Note: 4 or more ranks in Creature Lore grants a +2 synnergy bonus to a knowledge check that relates to monster lore (i.e. on the spot, non-research based checks to know something about the monster in question).

Craft: Small Arms (Int)

Class Skill: Fighters, Paladins, Rogues, Warriors

Restricted Skill: Barbarians cannot take this skill if they are a 1st level character

This is the skill you use to quickly and efficiently reload your firearm. For example, reloading a small pistol requires a Craft: Small Arms check DC 6. It is also used to clear a misfire or clean a gun after combat. You may "Take 10" or "Take 20" with this skill (requiring the normal 10 rounds or 20 rounds of action).

If the DC to reload is missed by 5 or more, the ammunition is ruined.

Craft: Cannoneer (Int)

Class Skill: Fighters, Paladins, Warriors

Restricted Skill: Barbarians cannot take this skill if they are a 1st level character

This is the skill you use to reload a cannon in preparation for firing. Additionally, it's used to clear misfires and clean the cannon. You may "Take 10" or "Take 20" with this skill. If a team is working together to reload a cannon, everyone on the team must make a Craft: Cannoneer check.

If the DC to reload is missed by 5 or more, the ammunition is ruined.

Craft: Gunsmith (Int)

Class Skill: none (Experts only)

Restricted Skill: Barbarians cannot take this skill if they are a 1st level character

Building and fixing guns, rifles, and cannons.

Craft: Demolitions (Int)

Class Skill: Fighters, Paladins, Warriors

Restricted Skill: Barbarians cannot take this skill if they are a 1st level character

Using blasting powder for bombs and earthmoving.

Craft: Steamworks (Int)

Class Skill: none (Expert only)

Restricted Skill: Barbarians cannot take this skill if they are a 1st level character

Specially trained craftsmen construct steamworks from engineers' plans and repair existing machines.

Knowledge: Firearms (Int; trained only)

Class Skill: Bards, Fighters, Paladins, Rogues, Warriors, Wizards

Restricted Skill: Barbarians cannot take this skill if they are a 1st level character

Knowledge about firearms and bombs.

Knowledge: Steamworks (Int; trained only)

Class Skill: Bards, Wizards

Restricted Skill: Barbarians cannot take this skill if they are a 1st level character

This knowledge skill covers all kinds of steam powered machinery.

Profession: Gunsmith (Wis; trained only)

Class Skill: Anyone with access to the Profession skill group.

Restricted Skill: Barbarians cannot take this skill if they are a 1st level character

Designing all kinds of firearms and explosives.

Profession: Steam Engineer (Wis; trained only)

Class Skill: Anyone with access to the Profession skill group.

Restricted Skill: Barbarians cannot take this skill if they are a 1st level character

This profession devises the innovative steamworks of the Iron Kingdoms.
